I always say to my students: “Believe in your imagination. There is no right and wrong in this class”. This is why kids let themselves play and try new ideas. This is why the environment is not competitive but a free space to express themselves with joy.

Our class is not just about acting. It is about listening, observing, about being patient, about respecting each other, about being able to improvise. What is problem solving without a little bit of improvisation? As adults we can totally relate to this.

Imagination is an essential part of acting. We need to create a world that does not exist and make it real. Imagination is a tool that we use very often as adults at a lot of levels in our life.


How boring would life be if we can’t daydream and picture ourselves in that dreamy paradise beach or being the protagonist of that amazing movie?

Imagination will give the kids a tool where they can see ahead. Where they can project.

In our class at Holistic Yellow School we play, we pretend, we imagine constantly.

What are the activities that we do in class to encourage this? One of my favorites uses music. I play different genres (reggae, jazz, rock&roll, swing, electronic…you name it) and I ask them to create a story where they are inspired by the music. This works really well as music is a very good tool to create moods, to open our minds.

Some find themselves in an incredible adventure in a far away land, another one becomes a detective, a princess, a captain in a boat… 

Everything is right in drama class.
