A language that breaks barriers and brings people together- English is truly a global medium of communication today. At holistic yellow, we take pride in the diversity of the community of students and educators. While we ensure that a common medium of expression is sought after, we acknowledge that our collective effort lies in being able to communicate with each other rather than focusing too much on one language of interpretation.
A day in the life of a student learning English at holistic yellow begins with circle time, where we hum popular English sing songs such as ‘If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands’, initiating students from each grade to start their day with a sense of belonging and togetherness.
As we move on with the day, students are familiarized with word games such as wordscapes and hangman that actively build their existing vocabularies. Dictionaries are key to our learning here at holistic yellow, and form a poignant part of the English language, where we keenly engage in making our students value the power of learning new things with each passing day. Dictionaries also give us the opportunity to open a channel of communication, and, employ the right words at the right time and place, with an appropriate approach. The first word in a dictionary- able- translates to being capable of doing something- seamlessly fusing with our conversation around learning a universal language such as English.
Valuing the significance of the universality of English as a language comes almost naturally at holistic yellow, where educators are consistently striving to instill the right attitude and aptitude for learning something new. Fearlessness, intent and a positive bent of mind are encouraged at every stage in the school. With the help of specific English language exercises such as creating word maps, playing pictionaries and bananagrams, students at holistic yellow are lovingly assisted to understand the workings of an array of cultures they are being exposed to, just by being in the moment at school.
