Mathematics as a subject is present in all aspects of our lives. The beauty of Mathematics camouflages in patterns, numbers, forms, harmony and symmetry. It is an international language that describes the world around us.
How is Mathematics linked to a student’s daily Life?
Here are some Mathematical connections to the real world.
Managing money/ shopping: Maths skills help in figuring out better ways in managing their pocket money and also learning future skills for saving, budgeting and investing.
Home Decoration & Remodeling: The Mathematical skill of calculating area & perimeter are put to great use while remodeling homes.
Cooking: The use of fractions & ratio is important for correct measurements of ingredients and calculating time while baking.
Permaculture: In Permaculture, Mathematics is used for measuring soil depths, distance and area for planting. Statistics is also involved while measuring plant growth and charting plant development.
Travelling: Maths skills can be utilised for calculating time and cost for travelling.
Sewing: Maths is an obvious component in Sewing and it’s incorporated in measuring fabrics, grading patterns and measurement.
Sports: Basic Mathematical knowledge is used for tracking scores and most sports rules and strategies incorporate Maths.
Music: Maths is used to develop musical ideas in the form of counting, rhythm, pitch patterns, symbols, harmony, tone and timing,
Art: Art is a representation of Mathematics in creative ways in the form of reasoning skills, ability to recognise patterns through shapes, symmetry, proportions and measurements.
Maths is not just about the use of complicated formulas & calculations but it is a skill that we astonishingly utilised in every unexpected situations.
